Special Guest Tonight
UPDATE – Here’s the interview with Josh Reddick - Josh Reddick424withJoe.mp3
Thanks to the Boston Red Sox Radio Network, Josh Reddick will be the pre-game guest on the Sea Dogs Radio Network tonight. If you would like to hear this interview again, don’t worry, I’ll have it on here.
A FEW STREAKS CAME TO AN END: Portland’s 4-game road winning streak was snapped in
last night’s 9-1 loss to the Trenton Thunder…SS Jose Iglesias committed an error in the sixth inning, snapping a
9-game-team errorless streak…RHP DJ
Mitchell (2-1) earned his second win of the season, allowing just one run
on two hits over 6 IP. RHP Ryne Lawson (0-2) took the loss, giving
up five hits and five runs over 3 IP. 3B
Brandon Laird drove in four runs and
blasted a 3-run homer off RHP Jason Rice
in the eighth inning.
HAD THEIR CHANCES EARLY: Mitchell
walked three batters in the first inning but yielded only three baserunners
over the next five innings…1B Lars
Anderson drove in the lone run with a sac-fly in the first inning…Anderson
has an RBI in three straight games and 6 of his last 7 starts. Anderson, DH Juan Apodaca, 3B Ray Chang and RF Jason Place had the four hits for Portland – all singles.
LONGEST SO FAR: RHP Casey Kelly allowed
his first Double-A earned run on a 2-out RBI double by RF Daniel Brewer in the second inning…Kelly pitched a season-high 3.1
innings, allowing four hits, one run, one walk and three strikeouts…The righty
has a 1.08 ERA in three Double-A starts.
A RAY OF LIGHT:
Chang’s single in the seventh inning extended his hitting streak to a
season-high five straight games…The former Pirate farmhand has made seven
consecutive starts at third base…OF Ryan
Kalish has reached base safely to lead off the first inning in six consecutive
games (four walks, single, home run).
ONCE AGAIN:
RHP Stephen Fife is making his
second consecutive start against the Trenton Thunder…Fife suffered the loss in
the twinbill opener last Sunday at Hadlock Field, scattering three hits, two
runs, three walks and fanning four…RHP Ryan
Pope was scheduled to pitch against Portland but did not due back-to-back
rainouts.
NO POWER OUTAGE:
The Sea Dogs are second in the Eastern League in homers (14) behind the
Binghamton Mets, who have a league-leading 23…Despite the power numbers,
Portland is hitting just .208 (98-for-472) but is fifth in the E.L. in the runs
scored with 62…Trenton is hitting just .231 but is second in the league in team
ERA at 2.35.
