Newly acquired infielder Ray Chang will make his debut in the Red Sox organization with Portland. I had a chance to catch up with Ray at media day on Wednesday.
Ray knew one person on the team before joining the Sea Dogs – Portland Manager Arnie Beyeler, who was his hitting coach in the Padres system.
On playing for Team China in the WBC – “amazing experience, we played against some tough competition like Taiwan, Japan and Korea.”
How did you get picked? “Well that’s a funny story. I was asked to do a camp for Major League Baseball in China and that led to me being picked.”
Landing in the Red Sox system? “I was a 6-year minor league free agent and my agent talked to the Red Sox.”
Where were you born? “My parents are from China but I was born in the United States.”
I will be blogging today’s events at Hadlock Field.
11:07 AM – the team is working out on the field and will be finished around 12:15 PM. Media Day starts at 2:00 PM.
