Catching up with Ray Chang
Newly acquired infielder Ray Chang will make his debut in the Red Sox organization with Portland. I had a chance to catch up with Ray at media day on Wednesday.
Ray knew one person on the team before joining the Sea Dogs – Portland Manager Arnie Beyeler, who was his hitting coach in the Padres system.
On playing for Team China in the WBC – “amazing experience, we played against some tough competition like Taiwan, Japan and Korea.”
How did you get picked? ”Well that’s a funny story. I was asked to do a camp for Major League Baseball in China and that led to me being picked.”
Landing in the Red Sox system? ”I was a 6-year minor league free agent and my agent talked to the Red Sox.”
Where were you born? ”My parents are from China but I was born in the United States.”
Tuesday Workout at Hadlock Field
I will be blogging today’s events at Hadlock Field.
11:07 AM – the team is working out on the field and will be finished around 12:15 PM. Media Day starts at 2:00 PM.
12:28 PM – Sea Dogs taking batting practice…just said hi to new Pitching Coach Bob Kipper
1:13 PM – The workout is over, the team is getting ready for media day beginning at 2 PM
News on Chad Rhoades
According to multiple sources, including Sea Dogs’ beat writer Kevin Thomas, Chad Rhoades has been released.

Today marks the countdown until opening day, just one week away and the Sea Dogs travel to Reading to take on the Phillies.
