‘DOGS SWEEP THE ‘CATS: Portland completed a 3-game sweep of the New Britain
Rock Cats with a 6-5 victory on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field…C Juan Apodaca and OF Ryan Kalish paced Portland’s offense with 2-run doubles…2B Nate Spears had a sacrifice fly and 1B Will Vazquez provided the game-winning
RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the fifth off losing pitcher LHP Tyler Robertson (0-2)…LHP Tommy Hottovy earned his second win of
the season with three strong innings of relief.

 

WALK THIS WAY: The
Sea Dogs received five bases-loaded walks against New Britain…Vazquez walked
five times in the series and has reached base safely in eight of his last 10
plate appearances…SS Yamaico Navarro extended
his season-high hitting streak to 8 games with a first-inning single…3B Ray Chang went 1-for-5 and has hit
safely in 10 of his last 11 starts.

 

SAVING THE DAY: RHP Jason Rice recorded
the final two outs yesterday to notch his third save of the year…Rice entered
the game in the ninth inning with a runner at second base and one out…The Rock
Cats scored three runs in the ninth against RHP Santo Luis but Rice retired 1B Chris
Parmelee
and DH Alexander Soto to
end the game.

 

HE PICKS UP ANOTHER ONE: OF Jason Place
tripled off the Maine Monster to lead off the second inning and scored on
Spears’ sac-fly…Place leads the team with two triples – Portland hit three in
the series…C Luis Exposito and
Navarro each tripled on Friday night in Portland’s 13-4 win.

 

DID NOT QUALIFY:
RHP Ryne Miller took a no-decision
on Sunday, working four innings on four hits and one run…Miller also walked
four but held the Rock Cats to hitless in five at-bats with runners-in-scoring
position…New Britain went 4-for-25 (.160) during the 3-game set with RISP.

 

ROSTER MOVE: RHP T.J. Large
was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket earlier today to make room for RHP Kyle Weiland on the active 24-man
roster…Large appeared in three games with the Sea Dogs, going 1-0, 4.23 ERA (3
ER/6.1 IP)…Weiland will make his second start of the season against Reading.
