Sea Dogs and New Britain

Greetings from New Britain Stadium, where tonight the Sea Dogs and Rock Cats begin a 3-game weekend series.  This will be the third series between the two clubs, Portland has won all six meetings.

Notes from today’s media notes:


THESE GUYS AGAIN? The Portland Sea Dogs completed a 4-2 homestand with
yesterday afternoon’s 7-6 come-from-behind victory over the Reading
Phillies…Tonight, the Sea Dogs begin their third series of the season against
the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins affiliate)…Portland has won six straight games
against the Rock Cats, and have an 8-5 record on the road…New Britain has won
two straight games, but have dropped 11 of 12 games at New Britain Stadium.

 

BIGGEST RALLY: Yesterday
was Portland’s largest deficit of the season that they overcame to win…The Sea
Dogs scored three runs with two outs in the sixth inning to pull within one
run…LF Chih-Hsien Chiang tied the
game in the seventh inning with an RBI double and CF Che-Hsuan Lin provided the game clincher with a bases-loaded walk
in the eighth inning…Portland has played four straight 1-run games (3-1).

 

NUMBER ON IN THE SYSTEM: RHP Santo
Luis
earned his first win in the Red Sox system with two scoreless frames
of relief…RHP Jason Rice stranded
two runners in the ninth inning to earn his fourth save in as many
opportunities.

 

WHAT A HOMESTANAD: C Luis
Exposito
went 3-for-3, 2 RBI, 2B and two walks in yesterday’s game…Exposito
hit 12-for-21 (.571) with 7 RBI and six doubles during the homestand…The
Portland catcher has reached base 18 times in his last six games and leads the
club with 18 RBI.

 

NOT IN THE RIGHT SPOT: Portland hit .327 (64-for-196) during the homestand,
but just .211 (15-for-71) with runners-in-scoring position…The Sea Dogs are
averaging 5.7 runs-per-game during the six games and their pitchers posted a 3.17
ERA (19 ER/54 IP)…Tonight’s starter LHP Felix
Doubront
is 2-0 on the season, but Portland has won all five starts made by
the lefty.

 

ON-BASE PERCENTAGE TAKES A HIKE: OF Ryan Kalish
went 2-for-4, 2 RBI on Thursday and has reached base safely in 15
consecutive games…Kalish is second on the club with 15 RBI, but leads all
active hitters with four homers…Lin reached base in his final three at-bats
yesterday and has reached base safely in 19 of 23 starts.
