BACK IN TOWN: The Sea Dogs begin a 7-game homestand in six days as
they host the New Britain Rock Cats in game one of a three games series…OF Jacoby Ellsbury returns to Portland on
a rehabilitation assignment for tonight’s game…Ellsbury has been on Boston’s
disabled list since April 20 (retroactive to April 12) with hairline fractures
in four ribs suffered in a collision with 3B Adrian Beltre on April 11th in Kansas City… In 6 games
with Boston this season he is batting .333 (10-for-30) with 4 2B, 1 RBI, and 2
stolen bases. 


former star at Oregon State appeared in 67 games for the Sea Dogs over two
seasons…In 2006, Ellsbury appeared in 50 contests for Portland, hitting .308
and helping the Sea Dogs capture their first Eastern League Championship…He
would return for the start of the 2007 season, where he was named April’s
Eastern League Player-of-the- Month…In 17 games he hit .452 with 13 RBI and
earned a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket on May 4th…Ellsbury would
conclude the 2007 season helping the Red Sox win the World Series.


MEDICAL HISTORY: Ellsbury is the 16th Major Leaguer to rehab with the Sea
Dogs and the
10th as a Red Sox affiliate: Jed Lowrie, Daisuke
& John Smoltz (2009), David Ortiz (2008),
Lenny DiNardo (2004 & 2006), Casey
Fossum (2003), Chad Fox (2003), Wade Miller (2005)
Matt White (2003)…As a Marlins affiliate: Luis

…In addition,
Ellsbury and DiNardo were both members of Portland’s 2006 Eastern League
Championship team.


FINALLY ENDED A LONG DROUGHT: Portland had gone 0-for-29 with runners-in-scoring
position on the road from May 8 until C Luis
2-run double in the seventh inning of Sunday’s game…Exposito had
both of Portland’s hits with runners-in-scoring position, providing the
game-winning RBI double in the top of the ninth inning off RHP Danny Farquhar.


DOUBLE DOWN ON 11: RHP Bryce Cox and
RHP Jason Rice have converted all
their save chances, going a combined 11-for-11…Rice notched his sixth save on
Sunday afternoon with a scoreless ninth…Cox has not yielded a run in seven
consecutive appearances.
