Trying to end the streak

(Reading, PA) – The Sea Dogs have lost four straight games in Reading, PA after a 10-5 win on Opening Night (April 8).

In fact, C Luis Exposito hit his lone homer on opening day against LHP Matt German.  

THAT MAKES FOUR: After a 10-5 win over the Phillies on Opening Night, the
Sea Dogs have lost four consecutive games at FirstEnergy Stadium…RHP Ryne Miller (1-3) suffered the loss,
yielding a team-high five walks on four runs (three earned) over 4.2 IP…LHP Yohan Flande beat the Sea Dogs for the
second time this season, surrendering only one run on six hits over 7 IP…LF Chih-Hsien Chiang and 3B Yamaico Navarro each had RBI’s for
Portland in the loss…RF Dominic Brown and
DH Matt Rizzotti each had 2-run
homers for the R-Phils.

 

MAY HE LIKE THIS MONTH: Chiang
is hitting just .184 (23-for-125) in 37 games, but is batting .246 (16-for-65)
in May with a homer and 10 RBI…RF Matt
Sheely
ended an 0-for-24 drought by going 2-for-3 with a walk on
Monday…Navarro led off for the first time this season, and picked up his
seventh multi-hit game of the season (2-for-5, RBI, 2B).

 

HASN’ ALLOWED MUCH: RHP Jason Rice worked
a scoreless eighth in the series opener, and hasn’t yielded a run in nine of
his last 10 appearances…Rice has compiled a 2.79 ERA (3 ER/9.2 IP) this month
with four saves…The righty has surrendered his 10 runs over four appearances:
April 11 at Reading, April 20 vs. Binghamton, April 23 at Trenton and May 22
vs. Trenton.

 

VIDEO GAME NUMBERS: OF Michael
Spidale
is hitting .556 (13-for-23) with five doubles and 8 RBI in six
games against Portland this season…The Phillies are hitting .286 against the
‘Dogs as a team with a 4.18 ERA…Flande is now 2-0, 1.86 ERA (4 ER/19.1 IP) in
three starts against Portland…C Luis Exposito
is Portland’s leading hitter against Reading, compiling a .444 (12-for-27)
average against the R-Phils…Exposito’s lone homer came on opening night off LHP
Matt German.

 

LOOKING FOR NUMBER ONE: RHP Kyle
Weiland
is seeking his first Double-A victory in tonight’s game…Weiland
made his first appearance of the season on April 10th in Reading,
taking the loss…The righty surrendered four runs on nine hits in 5 IP, as the
Phillies grabbed a 4-1 win.

 

IT WON’T BE LONG: Portland and Reading will play a 4-game series over
three days at Hadlock Field on June 4-6.
