When we look at the New Britain Rock Cats this year, we see a
team that’s at the bottom of the Eastern League. While they may be the doormats
of the EL this year, it wasn’t always the case. New Britain has been prospect
laden franchise, something that their parent club, the Minnesota Twins, should
be proud of. Many major names in the Twins organization have spent time as a
Rock Cat. Here is just a short list of ex-’Cats who have made it big in the
show:
-Matt Lawton
-Todd Walker
-Torii Hunter
-David Ortiz
-Corey Koskie
-Doug Mientkiewicz
-Christian Guzman
-A.J. Pierzynski
-Jacque Jones
-Mark Redman
-J.C. Romero
-Michael Cuddyer
-Grant Balfour
-Kyle Lohse
-Justin Morneau
-Jason Bartlett
-Joe Mauer
-Francisco Liriano
-Matt Garza
The Twins organization have done an outstanding job at scouting
and drafting Major League talent, and as fans we’ve been lucky to see that
talent in the Double-A level. So while the 2010 New Britain Rock Cats find
themselves in the cellar of the Eastern League, remind yourself of the names
above, and know there will be more to come.
