‘DOGS POWER PAST THE ‘CATS: The Sea Dogs received homers from Mitch Dening, Tim Federowicz and Ryan Lavarnway in yesterday’s 11-6 thrashing of the New Britain Rock Cats…Alex Hassan continued his hot hitting, smacking 2 doubles, and finishing with 3 RBI…The entire lineup reached base safely, and Jorge Padron was the only starter without a hit…Stephen Fife worked 5 innings on 6 hits and 3 runs to earn the win for Portland.

QUITE A START: Quincy, Massachusetts native Alex Hassan (Hass-un) has hit safely in all nine starts, going 17-for-34 (.500)…Hassan has an 11-game hitting streak dating back to last season in the Carolina League with the Salem Red Sox…Hassan is one of three Sea Dogs to have played in all nine games…Will Middlebrooks and Padron are the others.

THROWING UP ZEROS: Seth Garrison extended his team-high scoreless streak to 7.1 innings with his outing on Sunday…Garrison earned his team-leading 3rd hold, and has given up only 4 hits over 4 appearances…New Britain scored three times off Jeremy Kehrt, who had retired 22 of 24 batters in his first two appearances until Chris Parmelee greeted him with a solo-homer to right field.

THAT WAS NUMBER ONE: Lavarnway’s long-ball was his first this season, but the 9th of his Double-A career…Federowicz tied Middlebrooks for the team-lead in homers when he led off the sixth inning with a solo-blast to right field…Federowicz has an RBI in 7 of 8 games to start the season.

NOW YOU SEE ME, NOW YOU DON’T: One of the biggest strengths of Portland’s offense in the first nine games has been their speed…Portland is 12-for-13 in steals on the year…The team was 9-for-9 in stolen bases until Che-Hsuan Lin was caught stealing third base in the third game of the season…Lin stole his team-leading 3rd base of the season on Sunday…Ryan Dent and Hassan…Jon Hee’s stolen base last Tuesday against Trenton made him the 7th Portland player to record a steal in 2011.
