Sea Dogs Notes for Monday

BREAK IS OVER: Tonight, the Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets begin a 4-game series at Hadlock Field…The Mets and Sea Dogs were postponed on Saturday, and the entire league was off yesterday for the Easter Holiday…With Friday night’s loss, Portland is 0-2-3 in their first five series of the season…Portland has dropped 5 of 7 games after starting the season 3-3, and lost both games in Binghamton last week.

 

SO CLOSE: Despite trailing 9-4 at one point, the Sea Dogs rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning and brought the tying run to the plate, but eventually fell to the Rock Cats 9-7 on Friday night…Ryan Lavarnway hit a two-run homer and Oscar Tejeda smacked an RBI double as part of the comeback bid…Lavarnway, Che-Hsuan Lin, Will Middlebrooks, Jorge Padron and Tejeda each had 2 hits in the loss.

 

THE RUN IS OVER: Quincy, Massachusetts native Alex Hassan went 0-for-5 on Friday night, ending his season-opening hit streak at 12 games…It is the second longest hit streak to open a season in franchise history and the longest since the Sea Dogs have been affiliated with the Boston Red Sox…The hit streak is also the longest in the Eastern League this season.

FED-EX DELIVERS: Tim Federowicz added another RBI on Friday, giving him 10 on the season…Federowicz has recorded an RBI in nine of his 12 games played this season…Only Hassan, with 11, has more RBI this season…Federowicz, Lavarnway and Middlebrooks lead the team in homers with two.

HE’S HEATING UP: Since returning for the homestand, Lavarnway has gone 3-for-7 with a home run and four RBI (back-to-back multi-RBI games)…He had started the year with three RBI over his first ten games…Last year Lavarnway hit .285 with 8 home runs and 39 RBI in just 44 games with Portland…Lin has hit safely in six straight games, going 9-for-22 (.409) during the streak…The second-year Sea Dog, has reached base safely in 112 of 131 games at Double-A.

 

WHAT’S ON DECK: Tomorrow, the Sea Dogs continue their 4-game series against the Binghamton Mets…On Thursday, the two teams wrap up the series with a special 12:00 PM start…Portland’s next roadtrip begins Friday night in Reading against the Phillies, and the second-leg of the trip is in Trenton (Yankees affiliate).
