REPEAT PERFORMANCE?: Tonight, the Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets play the second of a four-game series…The Mets will send lefty starter Mark Cohoon to the mound…Last Wednesday, Cohoon tossed a gem, striking out 11 Sea Dogs including six in a row at one point…Portland managed to score two runs while Cohoon was still in the game, but both were unearned due to an error.

 

SO CLOSE….AGAIN: Portland once again tried to stage a late rally, only to fall short in the bottom of the ninth inning…Leadoff man Che-Hsuan Lin got on base with an error…Then, Alex Hassan smacked a double…But Erik Turgeon managed a strikeout of Tim Federowicz before Ryan Lavarnway’s sacrifice fly to score Lin, making it 6-3…Turgeon then got Jorge Padron to strike out swinging, ending the rally.

 

THE RUN IS OVER: Quincy, Massachusetts native Alex Hassan went 0-for-5 on Friday night, ending his season-opening hit streak at 12 games…It is the second longest hit streak to open a season in franchise history and the longest since the Sea Dogs have been affiliated with the Boston Red Sox…The hit streak is also the longest in the Eastern League this season.

HIP-HIP, JORGE!: Jorge Padron recorded his second 3-hit game of the season last night…Padron finished the game 3-for-5 with three singles and an RBI…Padron is in just his second pro season, after spending last year between Advanced-A Salem and Portland…In 47 games with the Sea Dogs, he hit .286 and had 19 RBI.

HE’S HEATING UP: Since returning for the homestand, Lavarnway has gone 4-for-11 with a home run and five RBI…He had started the year with three RBI over his first ten games…Last year Lavarnway hit .285 with 8 home runs and 39 RBI in just 44 games with Portland…Although Lin’s six-game hit streak came to an end, he still managed to reach in the ninth inning thanks to an error…The second-year Sea Dog, has reached base safely in 113 of 132 games at Double-A.

WHAT’S ON DECK: Tomorrow, the Sea Dogs continue their 4-game series against the Binghamton Mets…On Thursday, the two teams wrap up the series with a special 12:00 PM start…Portland’s next roadtrip begins Friday night in Reading against the Phillies, and the second-leg of the trip is in Trenton (Yankees affiliate).
