Portland Sea Dogs (11-18) at New Hampshire Fisher Cats (18-12)

BASEBALL BRUNCH: The Portland Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) play the rubber game of their 3-game set on Wednesday morning from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium…Michael Lee is seeking his second win of the year, making his sixth start for Portland…Joel Carreno is winless (0-3) in six appearances/five starts for the Fisher Cats.

 

BATTERY MATES: Catcher Ryan Lavarnway drove in two runs and Stephen Fife (3-2) hurled six scoreless innings, leading the Sea Dogs to a 3-0 victory on Tuesday night…Fife scattered three hits, one walk and one strikeout to pick up his first win since April 17…Lavarnway drove in the game’s first run with a sac-fly, and slammed a solo-homer to lead-off the ninth inning…Kyle Fernandes pitched two innings for a hold and Tommy Hottovy recorded a perfect ninth to earn his first professional save.

LET’S GET IT STARTED: Fife and Pimentel have combined for 12 scoreless innings on six hits, two walks and eight strikeouts…Portland’s starters have allowed one run in their last 17.1 IP…Alex Wilson surrendered only one run in 5.1 IP last Sunday at Hadlock Field…Fife is the first Sea Dogs’ starter with two quality starts.

PITCHING IN: Tim Federowicz drove in the second run last night, knocking a run-scoring single to right field off losing pitcher B.J. LaMura (2-2)…Federowicz has 18 RBI’s, one behind team-leader Lavarnway.

WILL THIS BE IT?: Portland is seeking their first series win on the road this season (0-4)…The Sea Dogs are playing their 10th series of the year and have only one series-victory; April 25-28 against the Binghamton Mets at Hadlock Field.

QUITE A START: Alex Hassan has been ranked among the Eastern League’s top hitters the entire season and currently leads the league with a .365 average and a .465 on-base percentage…He has recorded hits in 23 of his 28 games played…He has 10 multi-hit games, and played the first 25 games of the year before getting a day off on Saturday…Hassan has the third best average of any player in Double-A…Middlebrooks is tied for sixth in the league in batting at .330 (35-for-106).

 

WHAT’S ON DECK: Tomorrow, the Sea Dogs and New Britain Rock Cats start a five-game series in four days from New Britain Stadium…The two teams play a doubleheader on Saturday night beginning at 5:35 PM…Then, Portland will return home for a stretch with 12 home games in 15 days, including a doubleheader on May 28th against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate).
