BACK SO SOON: The Sea Dogs match up with the Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) tonight for the start of a three-game series at Waterfront Park…Portland returns to New Jersey just two weeks after the Sea Dogs and Thunder played a four-game series there…Trenton has won four of the six games played between the two teams this year, including 3 of 4 at Waterfront Park.
TURNABOUT IS FAIR PLAY: After beating the Reading Phillies 14-4 on Tuesday night, the R-Phils turned the tables on the Sea Dogs with a 13-4 win of their own Wednesday night…Reading scored the last eleven runs of the game (all against the bullpen) after trailing 4-2, entering the sixth inning…Matt Rizzotti hit two home runs and drove in four…Ryan Lavarnway had a multi-hit game for Portland, his eighth of the year, including his team-leading seventh home run of the season. RUDE WELCOME: Cesar Cabral took the loss in his Double-A debut Wednesday…The 22-year old relieved Michael Lee to start the sixth inning, holding a 4-2 lead…Cabral gave up an unearned run in the sixth and four earned runs in the seventh, including a three-run home run to Rizzotti…Prior to coming to Portland, Cabral was a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities for the Advanced-A Salem Red Sox. BULLPEN BLUES: All but two of Reading’s runs Wednesday came against Sea Dogs relievers…Cabral, Santo Luis, and Caleb Clay allowed eleven runs, ten of them earned, over the final four innings…It’s the first time that the bullpen has given up multiple earned runs since May 8 when Clay surrendered three earned runs in a 4-1 loss to New Britain. HEE’S ON FIRE: Jon Hee is 7-for-17 (.412) over his last four games…Hee also has three of his five multi-hit games this season over that stretch…Additionally, he’s hit two doubles, scored four times, and driven in three runs.
