LHP Jesse Carlson released by the Boston Red Sox…Carlson appeared in one game with Portland, allowing five hits and three runs in one inning pitched on June 12th at Bowie.

INF Bryan Johns assigned to Low-A Greenville…Johns went 1-for-7 in two games with Portland, picking up his first Double-A hit (single) last night with one-out in the fifth inning.

RHP Chris Martin has been activated from the disabled list and will start tonight’s game in Richmond, VA…Martin is 3-3, 5.27 ERA (24 ER/41.0 IP) in 10 games/8 starts this season with the Sea Dogs.
INF Marquez Smith had his contract from the Camden Riversharks (Atlantic League) purchased by the Boston Red Sox

Marquez Smith was signed by the Red Sox today from the Camden Riversharks (Atlantic League)…Smith hit .278 with Triple-A Iowa (Cubs affiliate) last season.

and assigned to Portland…Smith was originally an 8th round pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 2007 draft out of Clemson University, and began the season with Pirates de Campeche of the Mexican League (May 1-13), hitting .261 (12-for-46) with a homer and 6 RBI in 12 games…With the Camden Riversharks, Smith hit .363 (33-for-91) with 3 homers and 20 RBI.

The Sea Dogs continue their six-game roadtrip on Wednesday night against the Bowie Baysox from Prince George’s Stadium…Portland suffered an 11-6 loss last night, but Bryce Brentz hit his second career grand slam – the 46th in team history…The ‘Dogs are 7-6 during a 21-game stretch against the Western Division…WWE Superstar Brett “Hit Man” Hart will make a special appearance in BowieI’m really looking forward to just seeing him at the park.  Hopefully I’ll get a few pictures for the blogs.
