Clemens (AUDIO)…Portland can clinch the season series

BETTER LATER THAN NEVER: The Sea Dogs are now 8-2 since the All-Star and are one game under .500 (14-15) in the last 29 games…Portland and New Hampshire continue the four game series tonight…The ‘Dogs have had success against the ‘Cats winning 13 of 20 so far this season…Portland and New Hampshire have six games remaining, all at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester.

BULLPEN BRILLIANT, OFFENSE RESILIENT, ‘DOGS HOLD ON 10-9 IN 11: The Portland Sea Dogs trailed by six after the first inning, but tied in it the eighth, took the lead in the 11th and held on for good 10-9…Will Latimer started and lasted just two-thirds of an inning and allowed seven runs on five hits…Portland’s offense tallied two runs in the first, but trailed 8-2 after one…The Sea Dogs kept crawling back and tied the game on a Jackie Bradley Jr. three-run homer to left-center in the eighth…In the 11th Reynaldo Rodriguez and Dan Butler hit back-to-back doubles to break the tie, and Butler came around to score ona Peter Hissey single to make it 10-8…The bullpen was outstanding for Portland…Jason Urquidez allowed just one run over four and one-third innings and Caleb Clay and Josh Fields combined to toss five scoreless innings…Brock Huntzinger gave up a run in the 11th but locked down his fourth save. 

PIMENTEL LEADING THE PITCHING CHARGE: Stolmy Pimentel has worked consecutive 7-inning stints, and notched his team-leading sixth quality start of the season on Thursday…Portland’s staff has been scoreless in 36 of their last 40 innings pitched…Since the All-Star break, they’ve compiled a 3.10 ERA (30 ER/87.0 IP).

TOP OF THE ORDER HAS BEEN TOP NOTCH: Over the past five games, four players have hit in the top three places in the order and combined to go 22-for-63 (.349) with six home runs, 20 RBI, 21 runs scored, five doubles, and two triples…Marquez Smith and Jeremy Hazelbaker have led the charge over the three games with 16 of the 22 hits.
