Sea Dogs and Thunder finish their 3-game set

BETTER LATER THAN NEVER: The Sea Dogs are now 11-3 since the All-Star break and are a game above .500 (17-16) in the last 33 games…Tonight marks the final meeting of the season between Portland and Trenton…The ‘Dogs have clinched their first series win against the Thunder this season, and look for their second series sweep at Hadlock Field this season (first against New Hampshire)…The Sea Dogs are 40-40 against all other opponents in the Eastern League in 2012.

STOLMY STYMIES, REY-ROD PROVIDES POWER IN 5-2 WIN: Reynaldo Rodriguez crushed two home runs and provided all of the run support in back of Stolmy Pimentel in Portland’s 5-2 win over the Thunder…Pimentel cruised in the first, gave up a run in the second, but settled into a groove and finished six and one-third innings and allowed two runs, on four hits, he walked one and struck out six…Rodriguez put the ‘Dogs in front in the first with a three-run home run in over the Maine Monster and the Sea Dogs never look back…Rey-Rod struck again with a boost of insurance in the form of a two-run shot crushed over the monster again and put it out of reach at 5-2…On the other side of the bump, Shaeffer Hall was solid and delivered seven and two-thirds innings…The southpaw allowed four runs, on seven hits he walked one and struck out three in taking the loss.

PITCHING HELPING THE WAY: Over the last five games, the Portland bullpen has been outstanding and has allowed just four runs over 28 innings (1.29 ERA)…Portland’s staff has been scoreless in 66 of their last 79 innings pitched…Since the All-Star break, they’ve compiled a 3.02 ERA (42 ER/125.2 IP).

JEREMY IN QUITE THE HAZE: Jeremy Hazelbaker was honored as the Eastern League Player of the Week for last week and tabbed as the minor league base runner of the month for June in the Red Sox organization…Since June 1st the outfielder is hitting .267, with 12 bombs, 35 RBI, 10 doubles, two triples, and 15 steals in 20 chances…Last week he hit .417, 2 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 10 R.

FIELDS IS ON FIRE: Josh Fields has been the team’s top reliever since June 13th…He had a season-high five strikeouts last night…Last 12 outings: 2-0-4, 0.43 ERA (ER/21.0 IP), 5 H, 2 R, ER, 5 BB, 27 SO…Has a strikeout in 27 of 30 appearances.

WHAT’S ON DECK: Portland hits the road for Binghamton, New York to take on the Mets for a four-game weekend series…The final series at NYSEG stadium…The ‘Dogs have a six game homestand waiting on the other side with the Akron Aeros (Indians affiliate) and the Erie SeaWolves (Tigers affiliate).
