Sea Dogs back home against the B-Mets
BACK HOME SWEET HOME, STILL #WINNING: Tonight the Sea Dogs open up a four game series with the Binghamton Mets (Mets affiliate) at Hadlock Field…Portland has won 8 of 9, and is coming off of a three-game sweep over the New Britain Rock Cats…With the win yesterday, Portland finishes the season series 13-6 against the Rock Cats…The Sea Dogs have won seven straight series at Hadlock Field, and 12 of their last 13…Portland is 27-12 since the All-Star Break.
BRENTZ BOMBS SEA DOGS PAST ROCK CATS 7-2: Bryce Brentz hit two home runs, collected four hits and four RBI in Portland’s 7-2 win over the Rock Cats…Brentz got the scoring going in the first with an RBI single and Xander Bogaerts put the Dogs up 3-0 with a two RBI single, two hitters later…Stolmy Pimentel (5-6) gave up a run in the first and fourth innings, but finished six and earned his team high ninth quality start…Pimmy allowed the two runs, one earned, on four hits…He walked two and struck out four…Brentz left the yard in consecutive at-bats with a solo shot in the fifth and a two run shot in the seventh…Ryan Dent collected four hits as well…Chris Martin and Michael Olmsted backed up Pimentel’s strong start with three innings of scoreless relief…The win for Pimentel is his first win on the road since sine 9/5/11 vs. Myrtle Beach, with the Salem Red Sox.
NOW THAT SPELLS RELIEF: Over the last 29 games, the Portland ‘pen has allowed just 25 earned runs over 123.2 innings (1.83 ERA)…Portland’s staff has been scoreless in 249 of their last 301 IP (83%)…Since the break, they have a 2.76 ERA (106 ER/346.2 IP).
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT IS PRETTY GOOD: Bogaerts third with 18 homers, Jeremy Hazelbaker, Bryce Brentz, and Travis Shaw have 17 homers, which is fourth in the organization, behind Mauro Gomez’s 24, and the Drive’s Kuery De La Cruz’s 18…De La Cruz leads the organization with 79 RBI…Shaw has 77, Bogaerts is fourth with 73 and Brentzis fifth with 69…Jackie Bradley Jr. leads the organization with 42 doubles and Shaw is second with 39.
WORTH THE HYPE: 19-year old Xander Bogaerts has played 12 games in his Double-A career and has 17 hits, including three home runs and six doubles, since his promotion from the Salem Red Sox…Bogaerts is ranked the #2 prospect in the Red Sox system according to Baseball America…In 104 games with Salem, the Aruba native hit .302 (116-for-384) with 15 homers and 64 RBI…Also had 27 double and three triples.
