STAYING IN THE PLAYOFF HUNT: Tonight the Sea Dogs continue a four game series with the Binghamton Mets at Hadlock Field…Portland has won 9 of 10, and is coming off of a three-game sweep over the New Britain Rock Cats…With the win yesterday, Portland remains in fourth place, 4.5 games out of a playoff spot behind the Reading Phillies and are 3.5 out of third behind the New Britain Rock Cats…The Sea Dogs have won seven straight series at Hadlock Field, and 12 of their last 13…Portland is 28-12 since the All-Star Break and seeking their first 6-game winning streak since last June 1-7.

SEA DOGS STAY HOT WITH 14-9 SLUGFEST WIN OVER BINGHAMTON: Portland plated nine runs over the second, third, and fourth innings and held on late to win 14-9 over the Binghamton Mets in the opener of a four-game set…Jeremy Hazelbaker led the charge for the ‘Dogs at the plate, going 4-for-6 with two RBI and came up a home run short of the cycle…Portland collected a season-high 10 extra-base hits…Travis Shaw had three doubles and an RBI…Xander Bogaerts, Bryce Brentz and Peter Hissey chipped in with two RBI each…Bogaerts hit a two-run shot in the second, was hit by a pitch in the third and departed the game before his third plate appearance…Maine native Mike MacDonald (2-2) took home the win in the slugfest, working 6.2 innings on eight hits and six runs…Jason Urquidez pitched the final 2.1 innings in relief on six hits and three runs.

NOW THAT SPELLS RELIEF: Over the last 30 games, the Portland bullpen has allowed just 28 earned runs over 126.0 innings (2.00 ERA)…Portland’s staff has been scoreless in 252 of their last 310 IP (81%)…Since the break, they have a 2.91 ERA (115 ER/355.2 IP).

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT IS PRETTY GOOD: Bogaerts is second with the Drive’s Keury De La Cruz’s with 19 homers…Brentz, Hazelbaker and Shaw each have 17 homers, which is fourth in the organization, behind Mauro Gomez’s 24…Shaw tied a franchise record three doubles last night and is second in all of minor league baseball with 42.

WORTH THE HYPE:19-year old Xander Bogaerts has played 13 games in his Double-A career and has 18 hits, including four home runs and six doubles, since his promotion from the Salem Red Sox…Bogaerts is ranked the #2 prospect in the Red Sox system according to Baseball America…In 104 games with Salem, the Aruba native hit .302 (116-for-384) with 15 homers and 64 RBI…Also had 27 double and three triples.
