NICE TO GET NUMBER ONE: The Sea Dogs earned their first win of the season on Friday night, and continue their four-game series with the Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) this afternoon at Hadlock Field…RHP Kyle Kaminska gets the start for Portland in his debut in the Red Sox system…Kaminska was acquired by Boston for RHP Zach Stewart on December 6, 2012.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Portland took advantage of six Trenton errors, scored four runs in the fourth inning, and beat the Thunder 7-4 in game two of the series…RHP Brandon Workman led the way with nine strikeouts over 5 innings to earn the win…The ‘Dogs pitchers fanned 17, receiving seven from RHP Chris Martin (3 scoreless) and a perfect ninth from RHP Brock Huntzinger, who earned the save…LF Tony Thomas led the offense with 2 RBI and 3B Michael Almanzar went 2-for-4, RBI in his Double-A debut.

INTRODUCING THE TEAM: Portland has Boston’s Top-Rated Prospect, Xander Bogaerts and the Top-Pitching Prospect, Matt Barnes according to Baseball America…The roster includes Workman, the Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2012 and Christian Vazquez the top rated defensive catcher in the organization by Baseball America…Former Sea Dog Daniel Bard was optioned to Portland on March 28th by Boston.

  • The roster includes seven of the Top 30 prospects in the organization according to Baseball America; Bogaerts (#1), Barnes (#3), Drake Britton (#11), Workman (#12), Anthony Ranaudo (#14), Vazquez (#19) and Travis Shaw (#23)
·       Additionally, the Sea Dogs roster features three members of the Red Sox 40-man roster; pitchers Bard and Britton along with catcher Vazquez.  
·       The team includes 22 players with prior Double-A experience, including 20 that previously played in Portland…Four players on the roster were All-Stars last season in Single-A; Bogaerts, Shaw, Vazquez, and Michael Almanzar.

CELEBRATING NUMBER 20: The Sea Dogs 20th season kicked off last night, but the ‘Dogs suffered a 13-5 loss to the Thunder on Opening Night…Portland and Trenton next meet at Waterfront Park on April 26-28…SS Stephen Drew became Portland’s first ever MLB rehab on Opening Day – he went 0-for-3 with an RBI in his first at-bat on Thursday night…Drew is expected to continue his 5-game rehab assignment tonight.
