WALK THIS WAY PART 2: 3B Kolbrin Vitek drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning, giving the Sea Dogs a 2-1 walk-off win on Saturday afternoon…Portland drew four consecutive walks in the ninth off losing pitcher Walter Ibarra (1-2) and Jose Gonzalez…Right-hander Brock Huntzinger (2-0) worked a perfect ninth to earn his second win of the season…Vitek drove in both runs, tying the game in the seventh with a fielder’s choice…Tony Thomas went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored…Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger worked five innings, allowing three runs and fanning eight.
GOING A WAYS BACK: The Sea Dogs are nine games over .500 for the first time since they were 74-65 on August 31, 2008…Portland was last 10 games over .500 on August 30, 2008, when they were 74-64…The Sea Dogs are 50-27 since last All-Star Break.
WAY TO GO WILL: Lefty Will Latimer worked three scoreless innings on Saturday, allowing three hits, one walk and two strikeouts…Latimer has not allowed an earned run in his last four outings: 9 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 11 SO.
IT CAME TO AN END: 1B Travis Shaw did not reach base on Friday night, snapping his in-season on-base streak at 24 games and 25 dating back to 2012…The Portland first baseman is tied for 9th in team history for the longest on-base streak (Nate Rolison reached in 25 straight games from April 22-May 24, 1998).
UNCONVENTIONAL, BUT IT WORKS: Portland has consecutive walk-off wins in the series and three this season…There first walk-off win was on April 23rd vs. Binghamton (9-8, 10-innings on a wild pitch), Friday night (5-4 on an error by CF Antoan Richardson) and yesterday on a bases-loaded walk…Portland improved their one-run record to 7-2 and are 4-3 in games decided in the last at-bat.
