BAGS ARE PACKED: The Sea Dogs and Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon from Arm & Hammer Park…Portland split a four-game set in Reading to begin the trip, and are 9-1 in road-series finales…Portland is 0-6-2 in their last eight series…The ‘Dogs last series win came on May 20-23 at Hadlock Field, taking three of four from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats…Right-hander Matt Barnes has lost three straight starts.

ONE INNING…AGAIN: Trenton scored five runs in the fifth inning and received six strong innings from Mikey O’Brien (5-2), defeating the Sea Dogs 8-3 on Saturday night…1B Kyle Roller went 3-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI…C Francisco Arcia had two hits and drove in two…Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (3-4) suffered the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) on six hits over 4+ innings…Shannon Wilkerson led Portland’s offense with two doubles and an RBI…Peter Hissey delivered a two-run single in the ninth off former Sea Dog Cesar Cabral….Derrik Gibson, Travis Shaw and Tony Thomas each had two hits.

SNAPPED OUT OF IT: Wilkerson snapped an 0-for-18 slump with his first inning double on Saturday…Thomas played second base for the first time since September 4, 2002 against Scranton (Yankees affiliate).

WILL THERE’S A WAY: LHP Will Latimer tossed a scoreless eighth last night on one hit and two strikeouts…Latimer has not allowed an earned run in 9 of his last 12 outings: 20.1 IP, 20 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 12 BB, 19 SO…The lefty has a strikeout in 13 of 16 outings this season.

TOUGH SLEDDING: RHP Pete Ruiz gave up two runs on five hits over 3 IP, and allowed three inherited runners to score…Ruiz has allowed 16 runs in his last 7 outings: 9.20 ERA (15 ER/14.2 IP).

BUT ONLY ONE GAME OUT: The Sea Dogs are in third place for the first time since April 21st when they were a ½ game out of first place…Portland had held a playoff spot in the Eastern Division for 57 straight games (April 22-June 21).

IT’S BEEN A WHILE: Trenton’s nine-run sixth inning on Friday night is the most allowed by Portland since the Thunder scored 12 runs in 3rd inning at Hadlock Field on August 19, 2004.

WHAT’S ON DECK: Portland opens up a three-game series with the Binghamton Mets on Monday nigh at Hadlock Field…The ‘Dogs are 2-4 during a 38-game stretch against the Eastern Division…On Thursday night, the Sea Dogs head back on the road to take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
