THE LAST TIME: The Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets have played 43 innings in three days, and conclude their five-game series on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium…The two teams will actually play six games over the four days, but game one on Thursday night was the completion of June 25th’s suspended game at Hadlock Field…Today marks the final meeting between the two teams in the regular season…Portland is now 8-11-1 against the Binghamton Mets in All-Time season series.
TWO FOR THE METS: Binghamton swept a twinbill from the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday night, 5-2 and 6-0…The B-Mets scored five runs in the first inning off losing pitcher Terry Doyle (0-2) and never looked back…Christian Vazquez went 2-for-3 with an RBI…In game two, Binghamton scored three runs in the first and fourth innings off Jeremy Kehrt (0-3)…Wilfredo Tovar had the game-winning hit in the opener with a three-run double…In the nightcap Darrell Ceciliani and Travis Taijeron each drove in two runs…Darin Gorski and Jenrry Mejia earned the wins for the Mets.
MORE NEW GUYS IN THE MIX: Yesterday, OF Kevin Heller and C Leonel Escobar made their Double-A debuts…Heller started in right field in game one, going 0-for-3…Escobar caught game two and went 0-for-1 with a walk…Former B-Met LHP Eric Niesen made his Sea Dogs debut, working a scoreless inning in game two…If RHP Nate Striz pitches today, he’ll be the 50th player used by Kevin Boles this season.
STARTING TO CATCH ON: Vazquez is hitting .367 (18-for-49) with 7 RBI and 2 doubles over his last 12 games and hitting .344 this month…INF Heiker Meneses is the active leader in average at .274, but is hitting .391 (18-for-46) with a homer and 6 RBI over his last 14 games.
