‘DOGS AND ‘CATS BATTLE AGAIN: The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats play game two of their three-game series on Tuesday night in Manchester, NH…Portland has lost four in a row, while New Hampshire has won six straight…Portland has not scored in 27 innings (2 runs in their last 32 innings), their last run came on July 13th in game one of a doubleheader – two-out RBI single by Christian VazquezDespite being tied for 4th place, Portland trails Trenton by two games for the second playoff spot in the Eastern Division.

THAT WAS QUICK: New Hampshire scored all five runs in the fifth inning off losing pitcher Mike McCarthy (0-3) and shutout the Sea Dogs 5-0 on Monday night…Portland has been shutout in three straight games and managed only four hits…LHP Sean Nolin tossed a career-high eight innings on four hits, two walks and nine strikeouts…McCarthy gave up five runs, five hits over 5 IP…LF Melky Cabrera (MLB Rehab) blasted a two-run homer and finished 2-for-3…Andy Burns delivered a two-run double and Adam Loewen added a run-scoring single…2B Derrik Gibson went 3-for-3 and LF Kolbrin Vitek had a single.

THAT MAKES 18: RHP Kyle Kraus was assigned to Portland today from High-A Salem…RHP Nate Striz was assigned back to Salem…Portland has had 18 roster moves during the roadtrip, including OF Brandon Jacobs traded to the Chicago White Sox for LHP Matt Thornton…Kraus is a combined 4-2, 3.59 ERA (21 ER/52.2 IP) in 22 games/5 starts between Salem and Low-A Greenville.

NOT A STRANGER TO THIS ROLE: RHP Bobby Lanigan makes his first start with Portland (2nd appearance) and his first since September 4, 2011 with the New Britain Rock Cats against the Trenton Thunder…Lanigan has made 82 starts out of his 158 career professional appearances.
