BACK HOME WITH A PITSTOP: The Sea Dogs begin a 22-game stretch against the Western Division, opening up a four-game series against the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals affiliate) on Friday night at Hadlock Field…Portland has won six straight and just completed a four-game sweep in New Britain, their first 4-game sweep on the road since April 17-20, 2008 at Binghamton…On Saturday, the ‘Dogs and Senators move the series to Fenway Park with a 12:00 PM first pitch.
GREAT FINISH: Portland scored two runs in the eighth inning to beat the Rock Cats 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon and complete a four-game sweep of New Britain…Heiker Meneses had the game-winning hit with a one-out run-scoring…Michael Almanzar (2 RBI) knocked in the third run with a sacrifice fly…LHP Matt Maloney earned the win in his Sea Dogs debut, working 1.1 scoreless frames…RHP Noe Ramirez earned his first Double-A save, working the final two innings…Almanzar tied the game in the sixth inning on a run-scoring groundout…Travis Shaw went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double.
STAYING UNDER THREE: RHP Anthony Ranaudo made his 18th start of the season on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits over 5.2 IP…Ranaudo’s ERA remains under three at 2.80, which ranks fourth in the Eastern League…The righty tied a season-high with four walks and had just one strikeout – just the third time in his career he’s had a start with less than two strikeouts.
FENWAY ON SATURDAY: Portland and Harrisburg play game three of their series on Saturday at Fenway Park…The ‘Dogs are 2-1 in previous Futures at Fenway games with wins over Harrisburg and Bowie (Orioles affiliate)…Portland beat the Senators 12-11 on August 11, 2007, thanks to Jay Johnson’s, walk-off two-run double…On August 9, 2009, Jason Place blasted a two-run homer over the Green Monster, and finished with 3 RBI in Portland’s 3-2 win over Bowie…On August 20, 2011, the Binghamton Mets grabbed a 6-4 win in 11 innings…Milton Mass native Alex Hassan hit a two-run homer to centerfield.
