The Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox have announced that right-handerAnthony Ranaudo has been promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket. Ranaudo joins Opening Day starters Drake Britton and Brandon Workman to earn a promotion this season. Lefty Chris Hernandez has been assigned from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill out the 25-man roster.
Ranaudo leaves the Sea Dogs with the third best ERA in the Eastern League at 2.90 (36 ER/109.2 IP), going 8-5 in 19 starts. The righty went 9-7, 3.91 ERA (64 ER/147.1 IP) in 28 career starts in Double-A.
The former standout at LSU is ranked the #6 pitching prospect in the Red Sox system and the 14th overall according to Baseball America. Ranaudo went 6-1, 1.48 ERA (9 ER/54.2 IP) in his first 10 starts of the season

MOVING UP NORTH: The Sea Dogs continue their six-game roadtrip on Friday night against the Bowie Baysox (Orioles) affiliate) at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland…Portland was swept in a three-game set in Richmond to start the roadtrip, but trail the Trenton Thunder by just two games for the second playoff spot in the Eastern Division…Bowie trails Erie by 3.5 games for the wildcard spot in the Western Division…RHP Terry Doyle makes his sixth start of the season for Portland.
ALMOST WORTH THE WAIT: Portland and Richmond were delayed 2 hours and 10 minutes before the first pitch on Thursday night in the series finale…LF Javier Herrera delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning to give Richmond a 6-5 win…Trailing 4-1, the ‘Dogs scored four runs in the seventh inning off reliever Drew Bowlin…3B Michael Almanzar gave Portland a 5-4 lead with a two-run single…RHP Noe Ramirez allowed one run over 1.1 innings to take the loss…RHP Keith Couch had a strong outing for Portland, giving up four runs on eights over 6 IP.
OH HENRY: LHP Henry Owens was assigned to Portland yesterday from High-A Salem and makes his Double-A debut tomorrow night…Owens, the #5 prospect in the Red Sox system according to Baseball American, went 8-5, 2.92 ERA (34 ER/104.2 IP) in 20 starts with the Salem Red Sox…The 21-year old leads the Carolina League and Red Sox system with 123 strikeouts and had a stretch of 19.1 innings without allowing a hit (July 11-28)…On July 17th, Owens tossed the first 6 innings in a combined no-hitter against the Frederick Keys (Baltimore affiliate).
THAT’S NOT ALL: RHP Anthony Ranaudo was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket earlier today and was replaced by LHP Chris Hernandez (assigned from Pawtucket) on the roster…Ranaudo leaves Portland 8-4, 2.95 ERA (36 ER/109.2 IP) in 19 starts…Hernandez went 3-9, 5.72 ERA (65 ER/102.1 IP) in 24 games/16 starts with the Pawtucket this season…Ranaudo’s ERA is ranked third in the Eastern League.
