Sunday fun day in Bowie

The Sea Dogs and Bowie Baysox (Orioles affiliate) conclude their three-game series on Sunday night at Prince George’s Stadium…Portland is 2-3 on their six-game roadtrip and is off tomorrow before starting a six-game homestand on Tuesday night.

BAGS ARE PACKED: The Sea Dogs close out their six-game roadtrip on Sunday night against the Bowie Baysox (Orioles) from Prince George’s Stadium…Portland can finish .500 on the trip with a victory tonight, as last night they clinched their first series win against a Western Division opponent since August 14-16, 2012 vs. Altoona at Hadlock Field…Portland trails Trenton by two games for the second playoff spot in the Eastern Division…RHP Jeremy Kehrt makes his 5th start of the season for Portland in the series finale.

BIG O FOR OWENS: Lefty Henry Owens fanned a career-high 11 batters in his Double-A debut, leading the Sea Dogs to a 6-1 win over Bowie on Saturday…Owens tossed six innings on four hits, two walks and 11 K’s, holding Bowie 0-for-9 with runners-in-scoring position…J.C. Linares, Heiker Meneses and Travis Shaw each had 2 RBI…Shaw homered for the second straight night and has the game-winning RBI in both games…RHP Bobby Lanigan worked the final three innings on three hits, one run and three strikeouts for the save…Bowie finished 0-for-15 with runners-in-scoring position.

THAT WAS SECOND: Owens’ 11-strikeout performance was the second best by a Sea Dog this season…RHP Anthony Ranaudo, who makes his Triple-A debut tonight in Buffalo, fanned 13 on June 13th vs. Erie at Hadlock Field.

HITTIN IS CATCHING ON: Catcher Christian Vazquez went 3-for-5 last night with a double and two runs scored…Vazquez is leading the league in throwing out runners at 49%, but is hitting .333 (26-for-78) with a homer and 7 RBI since July 1st.

DOUBLING DOWN: Linares became the 18th player this year to have two doubles in a game…INF Michael Almanzar is the active leader in doubles with 24…Portland has outscored Bowie 15-3 in the series, scoring 13 of the last 14 runs in the series…LHP Chris Hernandez makes the start in game two of the homestand against Richmond.
