LET’S REPEAT THE TRIP: The Sea Dogs open up a six-game homestand on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants affiliate)…Portland will play the same two teams from the previous roadtrip (finished 2-4)…The ‘Dogs trail the Trenton Thunder by three games for the second playoff spot in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division…Richmond swept the Sea Dogs in a three-game series last week at the Diamond and have won 14 of 21 from Portland All-Time.
TWO FOR TWO: Bowie had consecutive run-scoring hits with two outs in the seventh inning on Sunday, defeating the Sea Dogs 6-4…Buck Britton snapped a 4-4 tie with an RBI double off LHP Matt Maloney…C Caleb Joseph followed with an RBI single to left…RHP Miguel Celestino (1-8) took the loss, giving up one run, one hit over 2.1 IP…Tyler Wilson (7-1) earned the win, yielding seven hits and four runs over 7 IP…C Christian Vazquez finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI…J.C. IN THE ZONE: RHP Matt Barnes makes his second straight start against Richmond…Barnes finished 1-3, 1.74 ERA (4 ER/20.2 IP) in five starts in July…The righty is tied with New Hampshire’s Deck McGuire for the 4th most strikeouts in the league with 113…LHP Drake Britton (9th) and RHP Anthony Ranaudo (3rd) are still ranked in the top 10 in league ERA.
HITTIN IS CATCHING ON: Catcher Christian Vazquez is leading the league in throwing out runners at 49%, but is hitting .341 (28-for-82) with a homer and 9 RBI since July 1st…Vazquez has three straight multi-hit games and a four-game hitting streak (8-for-16).
THAT’S A GOOD TRIP: OF Shannon Wilkerson during the trip: 9-for-19 (.474) with 3 RBI and 2 doubles…Wilkerson tied a season-high with four hits on August 2nd at Bowie and reached base five times.
