SAME STATE, DIFFERENT CITY: The Sea Dogs continue their six-game roadtrip on Friday night against the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals affiliate) from Metro Bank Park…The two teams split a four-game series at Hadlock Field on July 25-28, with the ‘Dogs winning the final two games, including a 5-2 win on July 27th at Fenway Park…Portland dropped two of three to the Curve to start the trip, and have won just one series from the Western Division this season (August 2-4 at Bowie).
HE DID IT AGAIN: LF Mel Rojas Jr. nailed a two-run triple with two outs in the eighth inning, giving the Curve a 2-0 win on Thursday night…Rojas Jr. had a walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning on Wednesday…RHP David Bromberg (6-9) tossed eight innings on two hits, one walk and seven strikeouts to earn the win…RHP Terry Doyle was outstanding in Portland, but took a no-decision, hurling seven scoreless frames on six hits, three walks and three strikeouts…RHP Pete Ruiz (2-3) took the loss, giving up both runs on three hits in the eighth…Shannon Wilkerson went 1-for-4 with a double, picking up Portland’s first hit.
FACING SOMEONE ELSE: LHP Henry Owens made his first 2 Double-A starts against the Bowie Baysox and gets the start in the series opener…Owens has fanned 19 batters in 10 IP with Portland, picking a win in his Double-A debut on August 3rd at Bowie.
ALMOST A BAKER’S DOZEN: Catcher Christian Vazquez extended his team-high hitting streak to 11 games by going 2-for-6 on Wednesday night…Vazquez’s hit streak is the longest by a Sea Dog since Jeremy Hazelbaker’s 13-game hitting streak from July 28-August 14, 2012.
DOWN THE STRETCH: Portland fell to 13-22 in games decided in a final at-bat…Last night was the 12th time this season the Sea Dogs have been shutout…The ‘Dogs dropped four of six this season to Altoona.
