Sea Dogs back home for three against the ‘Cats

The Sea Dogs begin a 72-hour homestand on Monday night at Hadlock Field against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats…Portland trails New Hampshire by 2.5 games for third place and Trenton by five for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division, but the ‘Dogs finish the season with 16 straight games against New Hampshire and Trenton.

GOING THE DISTANCE: RHP Keith Couch (10-3) tossed a six-hit complete game in Portland’s 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon in Harrisburg…Couch had the franchise’s first 9-inning complete game since Charlie Zink on June 19, 2007 at the Connecticut Defenders…3B Carlos Rivero homered off Couch to lead off the fifth for Harrisburg’s only run…Portland scored in their fifth on a bases-loaded walk by Garin Cecchini and J.C. Linares’ sacrifice fly…RHP Taylor Hill (2-6) took the loss, giving up two unearned runs over seven frames on six hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

MORE NINE HISTORY: Couch became the fifth pitcher as a Red Sox affiliate (since 2003) to hurl a nine-inning complete game: Zink (June 19, 2007 at Connecticut Defenders), Jon Lester (August 1, 2005 vs. New Britain Rock Cats), Josh Stevens (July 23, 2004 vs. Norwich Navigators) and Tim Kester (May 5, 2003 at Norwich Navigators)…Earlier today, Couch was named the Eastern League’s Pitcher of the Week by going 2-0, 1.13 ERA in two starts.
