The Trenton Thunder clinched their ninth playoff spot in their 20-year history.

(Portland, Maine) – The Thunder scored five runs early in the game off Mickey Pena (1-1) and clinched the second playoff spot in the Eastern Division with an 8-0 win the opener.  Trenton will meet the Binghamton Mets on Wednesday night at Arm & Hammer Park in Game 1 of the Eastern Division Championship Series.

Tyler Austin knocked in the first run with a double to left-center field.  In the third, Mason Williams led off with single and Ramon Flores followed with a run-scoring triple.  Jose Pirela (2-for-4) launched a two-run homer over the Maine Monster, his 10th of the season.

Trenton extended their lead to 8-0 in the fifth on a two-run double by Gary Sanchez.

Pena lasted four innings, allowing five hits and six runs on three walks and three strikeouts.

Shane Greene (8-4) fired his first career complete game, giving up three hits with one walk and fanned five.
