The Rangers have some unique plans for Lin, too, as Texas intends to convert the former Boston Red Sox outfielder into a pitcher this season, according to multiple reports.

Lin, who was signed by the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 2007, appeared in nine games with Boston in 2012. He played in right field for six games and in center field for three games, hitting .250 (3-for-12) with a run scored.

Lin spent the 2013 season in the Houston Astros organization, where he hit .234 with three homers, 42 RBIs and 19 stolen bases in 121 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 25-year-old, who is known for his defense and strong arm, also made two perfect relief appearances, seemingly capturing the Rangers’ attention in the process.
