The Sea Dogs dropped the first 2 games of the roadtrip, and seek a five-game winning streak this morning against the Reading Fightin Phils from FirstEnergy Stadium.  Portland is shooting for their fifth straight win today and a chance to go 10 games over .500 for the first time since last May (28-18)

FIVE WOULD MAKE 10: The Sea Dogs seek a five-game win streak, as they conclude their seven-game roadtrip on Wednesday morning against the Reading Fightin Phils from FirstEnergy Stadium…Portland dropped the first 2 games of the trip in Binghamton, but have won four straight, outscoring the opponent 25 to 5…The ‘Dogs have a chance to go 10 games over .500 for the first time since they were 28-18 on May 24, 2013…The pitching staff has compiled a 1.06 ERA (6 ER/51.0 IP) on the trip.

THAT MAKES FOUR: Portland shutout the Reading Fightin Phils 4-0 on Tuesday night, allowing just six hits from LHP Mickey Pena (3), LHP Nate Reed (1) and RHP Aaron Kurcz…The ‘Dogs scored their runs over two innings off losing pitcher RHP Severino Gonzalez (3-2). 1B Travis Shaw knocked home the first run with a single in the third, later in the frame, C Blake Swihart and RF Henry Ramos had back-to-back, two-out RBI singles…2B Mickey Pena delivered an RBI single in the fourth…Pena went five scoreless, giving up three hits, walks and five strikeouts.

#MOOKIE MADNESS:Betts went 1-for-4 with and RBI and his 15th stolen base on Tuesday night…The Tennessee native has reached base safely in all 28 Double-A starts (16 multi-hit games)…The first-year Sea Dog has reached base safely in 58 straight regular season games dating back to August 2, 2013, but 63 including last year’s Carolina League playoffs…His 17-game hitting streak from April 9-30 was the longest since OF Bret Ronenberg’s 18-game hitting streak from April 27-May 15, 2004…Betts’ .407 average is the highest in Minor League Baseball…he’s also reached safely in 122 of his last 132 games (dating back to May 5, 2013).

BIG SHOCKER: Betts was named the Eastern League Player of the Month on Tuesday, after leading Minor League Baseball with a .430 average in April…He’s the 12th player in franchise history to win the award and the first since OF Juan Carlos Linares took home the honors last August…On Monday, RHP Mike McCarthy was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, going 2-0, 0.00 ERA in 2 starts.

SUPER SHAW:After hitting .114 (4-for-35) through the first 10 games of the season, Shaw enters today’s game at .311 with 5 HR and 22 RBI…He has a 6-game hitting streak: 11-for-21 (.524), HR, 5 RBI, 5 2B (multi-hit in 5 of last 8)…Last 16 games: 28-for-68 (.412), 5 HR, 19 RBI…RBI in 13 of his last 17 games.
