Portland returns home tomorrow, opening up a 9-game/7-day homestand against the Trenton Thunder and Binghamton Mets.

MORNING BASEBALL: The Sea Dogs look to salvage the final game of their three-game series with the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins affiliate) on Thursday morning at New Britain Stadium…With last night’s loss, Portland suffered their first road-series loss since August 13-15, 2013 at Altoona (previously been 6-0-3 in road series)…Portland is still a ½ game in front of Trenton for the top spot in the Eastern Division, but have dropped three of their last four…The Rock Cats have won nine of their last 12 and seven of their last eight at home.
WALK-OFF WIN…LITERALLY: 3B Brandon Waring capped of a three-run rally in the ninth for New Britain, drawing a bases-loaded walk, giving the Rock Cats a 4-3 win on Wednesday night…New Britain had five straight hits to start the frame off Michael Olmsted and losing pitcher Jose Valdez (0-1)…1B Kenny Vargas tied the game with a single and scored the winning run on the walk by Waring…Portland led 3-0, receiving two-out RBI singles from SS Deven Marrero and CF Shannon Wilkerson…LHP Henry Owens threw four no-hit innings, but walked five and fanned eight.
#MOOKIE MADNESS:2B Mookie Betts went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk…The Tennessee native has reached base safely in all 34 Double-A starts (18 multi-hit games)…The first-year Sea Dog has reached base safely in 64 straight regular season games dating back to August 2, 2013, but 69 including last year’s Carolina League playoffs…His 17-game hitting streak from April 9-30 was the longest since OF Bret Ronenberg’s 18-game hitting streak from April 27-May 15, 2004…Betts’ .394 average is the 2nd highest in Minor League Baseball…he’s also reached safely in 128 of his last 138 games (dating back to May 5, 2013).
