9-game trip opens tonight
The Sea Dogs open up their longest roadtrip of the season, starting a 9-game trip against the Altoona Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field. LHP Brian Johnson was skipped in his previous start and gets the ball in the series opener…Portland will face their fourth straight lefty starter, taking on LHP Joely Rodriguez.
Altoona is affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates…There’s a huge buzz in Pirates land with former Curve OF Gregory Polanco being promoted to Pittsburgh…Polanco went 6-for-12 with a homer, triple and 2 RBI against Portland last season.

WON’T SEE MAINE FOR A WHILE: Tonight the Sea Dogs open up a nine-game roadtrip against the Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) at Peoples Natural Gas Field…Portland’s trip includes three cities: Altoona, PA, Akron Ohio and Erie, PA…The ‘Dogs are 3-3 during an 18-game stretch against the Western Division…Portland owns the best record in the Eastern League at 41-22 and their 8.5 game lead is their biggest of the season…Last season, the Curve took four of six from Portland.
WAY TO GO GIBBY: CF Derrik Gibson delivered a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning, giving the Sea Dogs a 5-4 walk-off win on Sunday afternoon against the Bowie Baysox at Hadlock Field…Portland’s bullpen of RHP Michael Olmsted (1.1 IP) and RHP Miguel Celestino (2 IP) combined for 3.1 scoreless frames on one hit and six strikeouts…Celestino earned his first win of the season with two perfect innings…2B Sean Coyle blasted his 4th homer of the season and added a double in the seventh…Gibson finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 3B Heiker Meneses went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring double.
#WALKOFFCITY:Monday was Portland’s fourth walk-off win of the season, and they improved to 22-11 (.667) at Hadlock Field…The ‘Dogs are 12-11 (.522) in one-run games, the sixth best mark in the Eastern League…Altoona has struggled in one-run games, ranking last in the league at 6-18 (.250).
