View of Canal Park…Two best teams meet up
The top two teams in the Eastern League open up a three-game series on Friday night at Canal Park in downtown Akron, Ohio…Portland has a league best 42-22 record, while the Akron RubberDucks are 39-28, but were recently swept in a four-game series at home to the Binghamton Mets.
So with last night’s postponement, the Sea Dogs now play an eight-game roadtrip, but we won’t have the full results of the trip until June 20th. Sound confusing? Yes, I know, it is a bit. Wednesday night’s suspended game in Altoona will be made up before the ‘Dogs and Curve play game one of their series at Hadlock Field on June 20th. Altoona is the home team for that suspended game, which goes nine innings. The second game is a seven-inning game. Last night’s regularly scheduled game will be made up on June 21st as part of a doubleheader, the ‘Dogs will be the home team for both games. Did you get all that?
So why RubberDucks? Akron changed their nickname this year to align themselves with Akron’s history in the rubber industry. Akron is the birthplace of tire and rubber companies such as Goodyear, Firestone, Goodrich and General Tire.
Not a bad rehab list in Pawtucket: Former Sea Dogs Clay Buchholz and Will Middlebrooks scheduled to play this weekend, along with Shane Victorino.
Bo knows Akron: OF Bo Greenwell hit .216 in 10 games with Akron last season, but spent 2007-13 in the Indians organization, he’s a former sixth round pick in 2007.
Good history with tonight’s starter…The Sea Dogs beat RHP Will Roberts twice last season.
