A few notes for today

BREAK IS OVER: The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats continue their back-to-back, home and home series on Thursday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium…Portland took four of five from the ‘Cats before the break, and look to go 30 games over .500 for the second time (59-29 on July 6th) this season…The Sea Dogs need one win against New Hampshire to take the season series – the final seven games are all in Manchester…RHP Luis Diaz fired a career-high 8 innings against the Fisher Cats on June 23rd at Hadlock Field.

BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN: Portland had five players with multi-hit games, and cruised to a 6-2 win over the Fisher Cats on Monday afternoon at Hadlock Field…With the win, the ‘Dogs took four of five from New Hampshire and eight of 11 from the ‘Cats in Maine this season…RHP Mike Augliera (4-8) earned his first win since May 18th, tossing 7.2 innings on six hits and two runs…3B Michael Almanzar finished 2-for-3, 2 RBI, including the game-winning RBI with a two-out single in the third…2B Heiker Meneses had two hits, blasting a solo-homer in the sixth inning.

RANKING THE ‘DOGS: The Top 5 winning percentages (Full-Season Clubs) in Minor League Baseball: Low-A Savannah 60-30 (.666), Low-A Kane County 62-31 (.666), Portland 63-34 (.649), Low-A Asheville 60-34 (.638), and Low-A Hagerstown 60-35 (.632).

MULTIPLE FUN: Almanzar, Ryan Dent, Meneses, Jonathan Roof and Blake Swihart each had two hits on Monday…Almanzar and Dent picked up their first multi-hit games of the season…OF Peter Hissey singled in the third, improving his Double-A best hitting streak to 11 straight games: 14-for-37 (.378) 2 RBI and a double.

ALL STAR WRAP-UP: Derrik Gibson played the entire game at SS, going 2-for-3 with a homer, triple and 2 runs scored, but the Eastern squad fell to the West, 5-2, Wednesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona, Pennsylvania…2B Sean Coyle went 1-for-2 with a single and a stolen base…C Blake Swihart finished 0-for-2 with a strikeout…LHP Robby Scott tossed a scoreless fourth, yielding a hit, but fanning two.

NUMBER ONE AND TWO:LHP Henry Owens and LHP Brian Johnson pitch back-to-back to close out the four-game set…Owens’ 12 wins is tied with Norfolk’s Tyler Wilson for the most in the minor leagues…Johnson has a combined 11 wins between Portland and High-A Salem – tied for second with four other pitchers.
