What a 10-game run!

IMG_2649The Sea Dogs have a 10-game winning streak, their longest since the ’06 championship season, and take on the Fightin Phils for the 20th time this season (Portland has won 14 of 19)…LHP Eduardo Rodriguez makes his 5th start with Portland since being acquired by the Red Sox from the Baltimore Orioles on July 31st for LHP Andrew Miller…Rodriguez is 2-0, 0.74 ERA with Portland, as he took the rotation spot of LHP Henry Owens.

Portland holds a 2.5 game lead over the Binghamton Mets for the top spot in the Eastern Division…The ‘Dogs have a magic number of 5 to clinch the division…They hold the tiebreaker over the B-Mets.

Speaking of playoffs, the PawSox now hold a one-game lead over the Buffalo Bison for wild card spot in the International League. The two teams play tonight, with Owens taking on Daniel Norris.

A few notes for today

MAKE THAT 10: The Sea Dogs have won 10 straight, their longest since a 10-gamer from May 31-June 13, 2006, and continue their four-game series with the Reading Fightin Phils on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field…Portland needs two wins for the best record in franchise history – the 1995 team holds the team mark at 86-56…With a win tonight, the Sea Dogs will have their third, 11-game winning streak in franchise history – the last in 2000 (April 12-26)…The team record for consecutive wins is 12 (April 25-May 7, 1997).

HANGING ZEROS: Portland secured their second straight shutout, opening up an 8-game homestand with a 3-0 win over the Reading Fightin Phils on Monday night…RHP Justin Haley (2-2) tossed six frames on four hits, one walk and five strikeouts…RHP Wilfredo Boscan earned a save with two innings and RHP Noe Ramirez pitched a perfect ninth for his 16th save of the year…The game-winning RBI happened two batters into the first inning, thanks to Mike Miller’s run-scoring double, plating Shannon WilkersonDavid Chester led off the second with a solo-homer (#7) and Stefan Welch added an RBI double in the fourth.

RANKING THE ‘DOGS: The Top 5 winning percentages (Full-Season Clubs) in Minor League Baseball: Low-A Kane County 87-46 (.654), Low-A Asheville 85-47 (.644), Low-A Savannah 82-47 (.636), Low-A Hagerstown 84-49 (.632), and Portland 85-50 (.630)…The Red Sox have the 5th best record as an organization in MiLB at 398-327 (.549).

PITCHING WINS: Portland has a quality start in 10 of their last 11 games, and the pitching staff has posted a 1.43 ERA (10 ER/63.0 IP) over that span…This month, the ‘Dogs lead the Eastern League in pitching with a 2.66 ERA…The ‘Dogs bullpen has not allowed a run in their last 28.0 inning pitched.

MORE ON THOSE ARMS: Portland’s lead the Eastern League with a 3.46 ERA…The franchise mark is a 3.24 ERA in 2001 and the best as a Red Sox affiliate is 2005’s 3.82 ERA…The Sea Dogs have never led the league in ERA – the finished second in 2001…Haley has a quality start in all five Double-A appearances.

SHUTOUTS AND SAVES GALORE: The pitching staff has 14 shutouts this season, two shy of the franchise record, which happened in both 2005-06…With 36 saves, the 2014 team ranks 7th in franchise history (1996 holds the mark at 45)…The 2004 team has the most as a Red Sox affiliate with 40.
