Marquez Smith was signed by the Red Sox today from the Camden Riversharks (Atlantic League)…Smith hit .278 with Triple-A Iowa (Cubs affiliate) last season.
and assigned to Portland…Smith was originally an 8th round pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 2007 draft out of Clemson University, and began the season with Pirates de Campeche of the Mexican League (May 1-13), hitting .261 (12-for-46) with a homer and 6 RBI in 12 games…With the Camden Riversharks, Smith hit .363 (33-for-91) with 3 homers and 20 RBI.

The Sea Dogs continue their six-game roadtrip on Wednesday night against the Bowie Baysox from Prince George’s Stadium…Portland suffered an 11-6 loss last night, but Bryce Brentz hit his second career grand slam – the 46th in team history…The ‘Dogs are 7-6 during a 21-game stretch against the Western Division…WWE Superstar Brett “Hit Man” Hart will make a special appearance in Bowie…I’m really looking forward to just seeing him at the park. Bryce Brentz was named the league’s player of the week on Monday, yesterday he was named the best for the month.
The Sea Dogs and Baysox end their three-game series on Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field beginning at 12:00 PM…Portland is seeking their second series sweep at Hadlock Field this season, and their third 3-game winning streak…Portland has not swept a series of more than two games at Hadlock Field since September 3-6, 2010 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

The Sea Dogs and Curve were postponed on Friday night, and open up their three-game series on Saturday night with a doubleheader from Peoples Natural Gas Field…Portland is 2-1 on the trip, winning on Thursday morning 7-2 at Harrisburg.
