Game 16: Sea Dogs (4-11) at Binghamton (6-7)…My thoughts on Fenway
Below is all the game information for tonight’s contest in Binghamton, but I wanted to say a few things about today’s ceremony at Fenway Park. I know it’s been a tough start to the season for the Red Sox, and probably tougher after what happened last September. I was so taken back at how perfect the Red Sox put together their 100th birthday of Fenway Park. Last year, a Red Sox minor league coach told me “You learn a lot about people when things aren’t going well.” I get that people are mad, but this happens to all sports teams. The Red Sox went 86 years without winning a championship, and they won two in the span of four years, but that didn’t seem good enough. I don’t believe in “setting the bar high” – that’s a saying made up by the media and fans. I still believe in this Red Sox team, and I’ve said it since the winter, I don’t think there’s a major difference from last year’s team to the 2012 squad. Maybe last year our expectations were too high. I still love the team, even though as I’m typing this it’s 4-1 Yankees, and I’m getting a little aggravated.
Today’s ceremony reminded me of going to Fenway with my dad and grandfather in the mid 80′s. I was at Yaz’s last three games and stayed for his entire victory lap. I also attended Tony C night and still have the poster. I owe my 16-year career as a professional broadcaster to my dad. He showed me the game, never forced me to like it, but I did. I’m sure my family thought I was a little nutty growing up. That passion has never died and I hope it never does.
Portland dropped the series opener on Thursday night 6-0, picking up a season-low 3 hits.
Rotation for this series
- Tonight – RHP Chris Balcom-Miller (1-1, 4.26) vs. RHP Greg Peavey (2-0, 0.00)
