GLAD TO BE HOME: The Sea Dogs open up a four-game series against the Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday night at Hadlock…Portland has lost six straight, their longest losing streak since last July 1-5…Portland has scored just 3 runs in their last 50 innings and snapped a 33-inning scoreless drought on Tuesday nightThe ‘Dogs went 1-7 on the road portion of their trip, but went 1-8 overall, losing a suspended game from Hadlock Field on June 25th, before the roadtrip opener on July 11th at NYSEG Stadium.

‘CATS COMPLETE SWEEP: Portland was shutout twice during a three-game sweep of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats…On Wednesday night, Ryan Tepera (8-6) tossed eight scoreless frames on five hits, no walks and seven strikeouts, as New Hampshire won 4-0…Michael Almanzar and Peter Hissey each had two hits for Portland…The ‘Cats scored three times off losing pitcher Keith Couch (6-3) in the fourth inning…Kevin Ahrens, A.J. Jimenez, Ryan Schimpf and Brian Van Kirk had RBI’s for New Hampshire…Tepera retired 24 of 28 batters faced. 

CRAZY EIGHTS: LHP Sean Nolin, RHP Marcus Walden and Tepera all worked eight innings in the previous series…Opposing starters went 6-0, 1.29 ERA (7 ER/49.0 IP) during the roadtrip with four quality starts…Portland’s lone win on the trip was last Friday’s 8-5, 15-inning win at Binghamton…INF Ryan Dent was the winning pitcher, becoming the second position player in franchise history to earn a win.

ALMOST HOME: The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats conclude their three-game series on Wednesday night in Manchester, NH…Portland has lost five straight, their longest losing streak since last July 1-5…Portland has scored just 3 runs in their last 41 innings) and snapped a 33-inning scoreless drought on Tuesday nightNew Hampshire has won a season-high seven straight games, and has their best record since they were 6-4…Portland has not been four games under .500 all year.

ONCE AGAIN, A FIVE-RUN FRAME: For the second straight night, the Fisher Cats used a five-run inning to beat Portland…On Tuesday night, their five-run second off losing pitcher Bobby Lanigan (0-1) gave them a 5-1 win…RHP Marcus Walden (6-9) beat Portland for the fourth time this season, hurling eight strong innings on five hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts…Portland scored their lone run in the sixth inning on a two-out homer by Garin Cecchini, his second of the season in his first time leading off as a professional…Adam Loewen highlighted New Hampshire’s 5-run second with a two-run homer.

FILLING IN NICELY: RHP Kyle Kraus was assigned to Portland yesterday from High-A Salem and worked four scoreless on one hit in his Double-A debut…Kraus retired Melky Cabrera twice, who he faced to start his Portland debut…The right-hander was the 51st player used by the Sea Dogs this season…Lanigan made his first start since September 4, 2011, giving up five runs on six hits over 4 IP.

POSSIBLE RETURN TO HADLOCK: According to Red Sox Manager John Farrell, SS Stephen Drew is scheduled to start a MLB Rehab Assignment with the Portland Sea Dogs tomorrow night…Drew could play Thursday and Friday night at SS and DH…On Opening Day, Drew was Portland’s Opening Day SS, the first Major League Rehab Assignment on Opening Day in franchise history.

WAY TO GO GIBBY: Derrik Gibson went 1-for-3 last night, and leads the team in average this month at .433 (13-for-30)…Gibson is 4-for-6 in the series, going 3-for-3 on Monday night.

POWER OUTAGE: Portland had gone 333 at-bats in between homers until Cecchini’s solo-shot in the sixth off Walden.
