PART TWO OF THE HOMESTAND: The Sea Dogs open up a four-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Monday night at Hadlock Field…Portland is 0-2-1 in their last three series, and dropped two of three to New Hampshire last week at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium…The Sea Dogs have held the top spot in the Eastern Division by themselves since April 27th…New Hampshire has won six of their last seven, and 11 of 18 this month…Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger makes his second straight start against the ‘Cats.

NO LOVE AT HOME: Binghamton completed the series win, taking Sunday’s rubber game 8-5 at Hadlock Field…Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-5 and drove in Portland’s final run in the seventh…The B-Mets erased a 4-3 deficit with three runs in the sixth and added two in the ninth…Drake Britton (3-4) suffered his second straight loss, giving up seven hits, six runs (five earned) over 5.2 IP…Cory Mazzoni (2-1) earned the win, giving up 10 hits and five runs over 6.1 innings…Joe Bonfe led the B-Mets 14-hit attack, going 4-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI…Peter Hissey went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double.
SOMETHING ABOUT THE TRIPLE: Hissey tripled for the second straight game, giving Portland a league-leading 20 triples this season…Tony Thomas is tied with Harrisburg’s Brian Goodwin for the league in triples with five…Bogaerts is tied for second with four…Hissey is hitting .300 (15-for-50) this month with 9 RBI.
IT’S GETTING H(EIKER)IGHER: Meneses went 2-for-4 yesterday with two singles, two runs scored and a stolen base…The second-year Sea Dogs has hit safely in eight of his last nine starts: 10-for-32 (.313), 2 RBI, 3B.
THEY DID FACE HIM: Tonight’s starter for New Hampshire Marcus Walden was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for his start on May 14th vs. Portland…Walden worked 7.2 scoreless on two hits, two walks and six strikeouts…The righty gave up two-out singles to Hissey and Heiker Meneses…Hissey’s single in the sixth, ended Walden’s no-hitter.
ALMOST PULLED IT OFF: Haeger walked seven in his last start on May 15th at New Hampshire and the staff walked a franchise-record 14 batters…Portland lost 5-4 on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Brad Glenn…Portland tied the game in the ninth inning with three runs off Joel Carreno…Ryan Schimpf walked five times but did not score.
WHAT’S ON DECK: The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) play game two of their four-game series tomorrow night at 6:00 PM…The two teams conclude the series with an 11:00 AM start on Thursday…Portland is 2-4 during a 17-game stretch against New Hampshire and Binghamton.

‘Dogs home for over a week…Review the moves/Lineups and Notes
The last time the Sea Dogs were home for eight straight days was the end of the 2010 season, tonight, Portland begins a nine-game, eight-day homestand against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats…Portland dropped three of four from Saturday-Monday in Trenton.
Portland has won four of six against the Fisher Cats this season, including a two-game sweep on May 7-9 at Hadlock Field – the two teams will make up that game on July 13th.
The Sea Dogs have four more series before the All-Star Break, all against New Hampshire and Trenton…Last series started 30 of 33 games for Portland against the Thunder and Fisher Cats.
- Right-hander Jason Urquidez made his Sea Dogs debut last night, working 1.1 innings on two unearned runs.
- Bryce Brentz provided Portland’s lone run on Monday night, clocking a solo-homer to right field on a 2-2 pitch with two outs in the nint.
- Jackie Bradley Jr. was hitless for the first time in Double-A
- Pawtucket suffered their eighth straight loss on Monday night, and were swept at home for the first time since 2005.
- There was so much talk about Ryan Lavarnway’s early struggles, despite the season .268 after the first two months…Lavarnway is hitting .313 entering tonight’s game.
